Primary materials are the earth’s natural resources like fossil fuels, metal ores, non-metallic minerals, food and water, which is just about everything you see, touch or feel as finished products. Some may have stricter definitions, but I ain’t some.
.
In 1970, humans processed 22 billion tons of primary materials.
.
In 2010, humans processed 70 billion tons of primary materials.
.
In 2050, humans will need 180 billion tons of primary materials.
.
.
Primary materials consume 80% of total world energy demand as finished products.
.
World electrical grid production consumes just 20% of total world demand.
.
This means emissions from 80% of our energy use have to more than double to meet projected primary material demand.
.
While it will take 50 years to switch electrical grid production to 100% renewable energy.
.
100% renewable electrical energy will only stop 20% of our emissions.
.
But, we will run out of soil and water before we reach 100% renewable electric grid production.

If you are playing Pokémon Go, stop and think about it. Get some emergency food buckets, at least, and plan on moving north.
